Halloween Count Down…

This week I decided to dedicate a day to some Halloween characters. Today is Frankenstein

I can just barely remember the film from when I was younger. I own the book but have never read it so I cant claim to be an expert. But the idea of Frankenstein has always been a rather amazing one. Especially in a day when plastic surgery is the ‘norm’. He is  such a cool character, being as he is not the villan, just a victim of a bad science experiment.

In my usual style I took time to look through Folksy for some Frankenstein treats. surprisingly few items under the description of “Frankenstein”. This is what I found:

What attracted me to this recycled domino brooch is its vintage appearance appeals to me. This image in particular is rather haunting. by It’s The Little Things…

I love this. I can’t pin point the exact aspect. I think it’s just the overall fun look, non-stereotypical of the imagery usually used for Frankie. by Heroine Industries

Genius. Frankenstein iconic photo as cuff links. Good for any occasion. I love these. by Pink Burlesque.

And not to blow my own trumpet (but I never add anything I’ve made) however since I made something under the criteria of this blog entry I thought I ought to

Who is your favourite monster? I’ll be doing Dracula next…

Feeling Cozy?

Well last night marked the official second duvet onto bed application. Snow fell up North in Scotland and I find myself wearing socks for the first time in months. In the Scottish Borders it has been cold for the past few weeks already. I bought a new jacket as I really needed an all-rounder coat and of  course the worst is still to come. FROST.  And good preparation is key to a successfully cozy winter. I’ve had a look through Folksy and found items I would love to be owning this time of the year.

Starting from the head. I love this knitted hat. Yellow is a hard colour for me to love but I have warmed to mustard. I can’t really wear fitted tight hats so this slouchy style is perfect. By MOOCOW

The neck. Now i know this looks an odd kind of space accessory but it’s called a Snood (Scarf/hood) the reason i love this is that it envelopes the neck and head. double whammy. plus the colour is warm and large knit style is very cozy looking. By Dolly Knits

The hands. If I had to name a favourite colour ever in the world, Purple is it. these gloves are a perfect style for me aswell. I love to take photos in the winter and hands get hit hard with the cold air. These are great coz they hit both of my needs. By Oranges and Apples

The feet. I love Fairisle patterns and red is a lovely winter colour. Something about warm knee-high socks. Gorgeous. By Legyviel in Rivendell

Warm feet. Funky slippers. I love these. They look like banana boots. By Flirty Gertie (love that name :)   )

Not forgetting the pets. I love the colours in this Greyhound Snood. By Klaras Crafts

I can wait to indulge in Hot Chocolates. Cinnamon buns. All kinds of winter treats that’s bring a smile to my face every year. What kind of measures are you taking to keep warm?

Too early?

I can’t lie, I was shocked to see Christmas stock out in shops in September. However. deep down I absolutely love this time of year. Especially in terms of making Christmas items for my shop. I couldn’t resist a look at some of Folksy’s offerings for the season of Goodwill. Inspiration was ripe, these are just a few of my favourites.

I love this card. I’m so used to getting traditional cards from relatives but I always like to receive one card that is contemporary. One that I would frame. I love the printed letters on this. adds Handmade quality that I like. ( by Devotion to the Dream )

I can’t wait for it to snow every year. There’s something so nice about usual buildings and scenery covered in a coat of bright white snow. Takes away all the flaws. I love this stack of the well known christmas saying. ( by Tigerlilly Primitives )

I’m constantly impressed by Crafty Pagan Designs . I love these vintage tags. Silhouette of Santa and his sleigh with reindeer’s. Simple and lovely.

Scented patchwork heart-shaped christmas tree decoration. Winter spices are my favourite scent. Helps me through the cold air of the season. This little parcel of warm fuzziness is by Forest Flower .

Can’t go without a lovely christmas owl. Absolutely love this. The colours are perfect. This has given me inspiration for my own christmas owls. ( by Kirsty Elson Designs )

Christmas is a great time of year and it’s good to see so many skilled crafty types getting into it this early, makes me feel normal.

Things on Folksy I like….

So I have given up veggie for now. I just can’t give up bacon sandwiches.

So anyway I have been looking through Folksy this week for inspiration and for warm fuzzy feelings of joy at the wonders of the craft world community. These are a few things I found that I love.

These tights are adorable. I recon if i hint enough someone will buy me a pair for my christmas. ( by Tights For Sore Eyes)

I made something similar with an embroidery ring and a doily. This is a great idea. I don’t really like earings and hardly wear them but I’d definitely wear them for these. (by Blue Fish Handmade)

The colours alone on this scarf are what makes October feel like Halloween. I’m not a massive fan of orange myself (i worked at B&Q) but toned down with a dark colour i can tolerate. this looks cozy aswell. and im all about the cozy. (by Miss Frekkles)

If you don’t already know I love Owls. This embroidered owl is in a embroidery hoop, it’s very very cute. I really really need to try this out. I have the tools just not the motivated time to sit down and have a go. It’s on my to do list (by Little Badger)

Just a little touch of Christmas. This idea is ace, as I plan to have a proper clear out of clothes, I can upcycle and make some funky christmas trees. (how to make)

day three as a veggie (trying)

Today i found it hard to write up my shoppping list. Especially as the other half still eats meat. I have no idea about meat alternatives. The only other thing i would class is Tofu, and Quorn products. Im allowing myself fish because i love Tuna and under the purpose im doing this i dont believe i need to give up fish.

I am also keeping eggs in as a protein suppliment. I’m actually really learning about food types as i go and this i see as a good thing. I’m aware of the food groups but i need a re-education.

Today i maybe had a wee bit too much cheese. But i can put this down to lack of choice. i plan to veg up tomorow after a good shop. im in two minds whether to eat a little bit of meat at the weekend. We shall see. I think i need to read a lot more into the subject and make sure im getting all my food groups balanced.

I have been eating an apple typing this. Totally beats a biscuit ( :-/ )

day two veggie

Well so far today i have managed to forget about meat. But then i realised that its getting cold and this is the time of year you really appreciate a good bit of meat to warm you up. Might have been bad timing but is there really an easy time to become a vegetarian. No. Luckily i only plan to try this for a month. But i can see how hard it is to begin the steps towards this lifestyle. I still need to really investigate different meals and get the ingredients in. Trying Tofu being the highlight (or low light)

Tonight i plan to have flat mushroom stuffed with reduced fat cream cheese onions and crushed rivita on the top some tomatoes for my dinner. And a shed load of salad. And especially today i realised i shall need some grazing foods to get me through the days because im having bad cravings and trying not to smoke to ease it.

bring on day 3…

Crafty Items I’m liking this week…

I have never really tipped my cap to other sellers of Folksy (never really had time to). As i have been browsing this afternoon i have found a few i have to express my like for.

These cushions caught my eye. Its made by Suzie & me.  I love the colours, and more, the embroidary effect. It’s a cushion that would make me smile more often.

I absolutely love this technique. Its something i want to try. Very cute. It’s made by Jil Made This.

This is so cute. All the art work i see on folksy i want to try a replicate but hen i realise i really cant. Beautiful. This is made by Sally Boyle – Applied Graphics. My absolute favourite ‘favourited’ item of the last month. My tights feel so boring after checking out this shop. Made by Tights for sure Eyes.
